My dog interest was not really awaken until i was in my twenties. It all started when i got interest in training my wife's dog at her familys estate "Tornhill". It was a German Shepherd and after that followed another few dogs of the same race. Then i discovered my passion for hunting and began my long training on hunting dogs. For many years i imported dogs from Great Britain to train into hunting dogs. I then sold these to people who didn't have the time or knowledge to train a dog themselves. This was a very educating time for me. Paralell with training my own dogs i started helping my friends train their dogs. This escalated to the point i had almost no free time for myself. So we decided to schedule the training to 1 evening a week. I often get the question where i got my education. I can proudly say that i have taught myself. How do you teach yourself you might ask: Well, if you have the ability to learn from your mistakes you get a very good base to stand on and i think i dare say that i have made more mistakes than any other person in the country during my "dog years". But I turned these mistakes into very valuable knowledge instead of defending them like so many others have done. The advantage of this is that it is very hard to get the same education without having made the same long journey yourself. You can't learn this from some instructor courses in step 1, 2, 3 and so on. |
